These are a Few of My Favorite Things!

I love the holidays. The excuse to shop and spend money on yourself and others gives me such a rush. Choosing the perfect item for that perfect someone and seeing her face is a feeling like unlike any other as well. My mother says in this economy, "If you can't wear it or eat it, don't buy it." Translation...SHOP! With that said, here are a few of my favorite things to give or to receive.BB Dakota Gloria Ankle boot. Great heel height and perfect with jeans.

Ella Moss Jordna top. Is it a sweatshirt? Is it a fancy "going out top?"

Hudson 5 pocket May. Sleek and sexy.

Nv Holiday Guide 2010

35 days till Christmas! That means 35 days left to find the perfect items for you loved ones, 35 days to drop hints so your loved ones can find the perfect items for you, and 35 days to find the perfect outfit for your office/friend's/family holiday party!

Classic Gift...
As corny as it may seem I think sweaters always make great holiday gifts - they fit everyone's frame and style, they are necessary for the in-climate weather of the holiday season, and a sweater is just plain classic.

For your boyfriend/brother try Kill City's Half Zip sweater in Black - this ultra cozy thick knit looks great with jeans and layered with a plaid flannel or button down and has a touch more style than the traditional black crew neck sweater.

For your girlfriend/sister/gal pal check out Theory's Wrena sweater - you don't have to compromise softness for warmth or visa versa with this wool mohair blend sweater you get the best of both worlds plus it bears style with its sharp puff shoulders!

Stocking Stuffer Ideas...

Ladies- we always appreciate great facial products like Murad, funky jewelry we may not buy ourselves, scented candles - instant ambiance in a room, and patterned tights - punches up an ordinary outfit! (Try Free People's Split Pattern Tights in Black or Berry)

Guys- Great socks, travel size colognes, a shaving kit, and great basic tee's -They'll go great with that sweater some one got him ;) (Check out Splendid Mills Always Cotton Crew in White)!Holiday Dressing...

Office Party - If your a working gal with an office party to attend try Theory's Mickie Dress in Black with those patterned tights we mentioned before and big sparkley studs!
If your bff is having a party try BB Dakota's Kendall Dress in Black - a great simple LBD with a little spunk and for a more romantic look try layering BB Dakota's Amherst tank over the dress!

Family party? Pick out a great sweater like BB Dakota's Thayer sweater (Mentioned in "Get Stylish Fast") in heather gray and layer it with BB Dakota's Keaton Sequin leggings and a few chains for a conservative yet fun and sparkly holiday look!!

For the gentleman...I've got a one look fits all: A great pair of slacks (We recommend Theory's Darron Coastal Pant), a sleek sweater that fits! nothing slouchy or stretched out - try Eli Tahari's Abel V-Neck in Black, and finally add a patterned button down for a pop of color! (Check out Nat Nast's Perfectly Plaid Button Down in Eggplant).Happy Holidays!!

A little something for the fellas...

Since all of these blogs have been directed towards the ladies we thought we would throw one out there for the male fashionistas?...fashionistos! One brand that I can't help picturing on my boy friend is Nat Nast. Now I know Nat Nast usually conjures images of bowling shirts and Charlie Sheen but bear with me for Nat Nast is so much more...Their solid sweaters look great layered with a patterned button down, either from Nat Nast or for a younger look try one of Kill City's flannel button downs under a Nat Nast sweater! Try Nat Nast's Cigar Stripe Button Down...

...then add Nat Nast's Clubhouse Snap Sweater in grey (Also featured in eggplant and pinot!). I also love their light weight crew neck and v neck sweaters layered with a blazer. Try Nat Nast's Clubhouse Double Standard in Cigar...

...then add Theory's Brodie Jacket in Multi Charcoal!

This is a great toway steer clear of the boring old blue button down and look dressy with out looking stuffy! If you are a lady reading this - these are great holiday gift ideas for your beau, bro, and even your dad! Giving your loved ones some simple clean cut style is easy with Nat Nast's relaxed fit, simple patterns, and luxurious fabrics!

Get Stylish...Fast!

Here are two extremely easy outfits that are comfortable, stylish, and may even allow you to shop your own closet! The first is for the more conservative and the latter is for our little fashionista vixens.

This look allows you to parade around in your favorite worn out jeans. Why is it okay to wear these outside of the house? When you mix the grungy pair of jeans with the sleek look and fit of a blazer, the two contrasting styles off set each other. Top the look off with a classic white tee, a long necklace, and a great pair of boots. Painting your nails with a purple-grey is a great shade that is work appropriate but is also stylish and fun!

Shop the look at NV: Blazer: Elizabeth and James James VI Blazer Tee: LNA V Neck Tee in White Boots: Koolaburra Angie Tall Boot in Black Jeans: Hudson Jeans Signature Destroyed Skinny

What's great about this look is you can be lounging around your houseone minute and out for cocktails the next. Start with a great pair of basic black leggings and layer a slightly oversized sweater over them. Next, add a statement necklace and animal print or brightly colored shoes. The reason this outfit works is the contrast of the larger fit of the sweater against the tight leggings creates an attractive silhouette, where as two oversized items would look sloppy and two tight items would be unflattering and inappropriate. In addition, the simplicity of the outfit allows for fun accessorizing…cue the leopard booties and chunky necklace! To get in tune with your inner vixen try O.P.I's Lincoln Park after Dark- Looks great!

LBD Edition...

What is the one closet staple no matter your style, whatever the season, whether it's a date or family affair, is an absolute must? Why a little black dress of course! With the holiday season rapidly approaching now is as good of a time as ever to snatch one up.

Here are some of our suggestions:
BB Dakota's Edgemont Dress, Elizabeth & James' Doris Dress, Wilster's Sloan One Shoulder Dress, and Alice + Olivia's Tabitha Dress. What's great about selecting a simpler little black dresses is they make for great day to night pieces. Here's a way to sport your LBD at work/daytime:Adding patterned tights is an easy way to spice up a simple dress, now a blazer, a scarf - to add a pop of color, and some booties and your good to go for day - come night ditch the blazer and booties for some chic heels and your let your LBD shine. Also if you're anything like me you are always on the prowl for a chic way to stay warm without ruining your LBD swag. Whether it's the AC on full blast or a brisk winter breeze, here are some of our favorite alternatives to the every-day cardigan for keeping warm and staying chic: LaRok's Weekend Vacation Jacket or Alice + Olivia's Evan Striped Hoodie .

Effortlessly chic...

Let me introduce you to my current style muse; she is not only fantastically fashionable but is also a fellow fashion blogger and is signed by Next Models. A beachy grunge style mixed with notions of Parisian flair, Rumi Neely's look is so effortlessly chic its painful. What I love most about her style is her ability to mix high and low price points to create a unique and interesting look. When building her wardrobe she gravitates towards pieces with unique details that set it apart, whether its intricate embellishing or a unique hemline . Often found bargain hunting at the average thrift store Neely saves her splurging for a well fitted jacket, quirky little dresses, and slouchy tops made for layering. Here is one of my favorites:
If you love this look as much as I do here is a way to recreate it by shopping nvclothing.com!

Start with a great pair of black opaque tights and layer them with J Brand's 1042 Rio Cutoff Shorts in Rio. Next, add a little pattern and silk with Gemma's Buffalo Long Sleeve button down...
Layer it up with Elizabeth and James' Sharp Shoulder Blazer. The reason this blazer works best is because of its oversized fit, its thigh grazing hem, and the contrast of the strong shoulders against the delicate silk plaid of the Gemma top. Top it all off with Botkier's Kasper Satchel in Black Lambskin.
Talk about effortless, now that I've picked out these perfect pieces all you have to do is click on the links to nvclothing.com and have this casual chic outfit arrive right at your doorstep ;)

Nv Clothing Guide to Denim Shopping...

Aside from swim suits one of the most frustrating items to shop for is that perfect pair of jeans. It can be overwhelming trying to decide which cut, wash, and style is right for you, so we’ve compiled a simple overview and suggested some great styles to fit your body type!

Legs:

Wide leg is…loosely fitted from the hip down, and opens to a wide leg

Trouser is…similar to a wide leg jean but typically features a wide hem

Boot cut is…fitted through thigh and knee; and begins to flare slightly from knee down

Straight leg…is a fitted jean that features the same width from the knee to leg opening

Skinny…is snugly fit through hip, rear, and thighs, and tapers from the knee to ankle

Denim Legging/Jegging…is meant to fit like a second skin, featuring a generous amount of stretch.

Rise:

A low rise falls…at two or more inches below the naval.

A mid rise falls…just at the naval.

A high rise falls…at or above the naval

If you’ve got…

a flat booty:

-Attract attention and dimension to your ass-ets with back flap pockets and/or a skinny jean.

-We suggest Hudson Jeans Signature Skinny Destroyed in RGN wash, or True Religion's Misty Legging Jean in Body Rinse.

some extra junk in your trunk…aka a booty or pear shape:

-Find a jean with a narrower waist and stretch to fit your curves. Darker washes tend to have an overall slimming effect- avoid excessive fading and distressing.

-Skinny jeans with a straighter cut can work too!

-We suggest Joe’s Jeans Honey Rocker in Maribel

A petite body…

-Skinny jeans are great for you! Sticking to linear cuts like straight legs and cigarette legs will lengthen you.

-If you are shorter and curvy a wide leg trouser will give you a sleek and polished look especially when worn with heels.

-When getting your jeans hemmed ask for the “original hem” it will make your jeans look as though they came made to fit you!

-We suggest Seven For All Mankind's Lexie Petite Jean in AHT wash

or J brand 901 Legging in Tawny.

Long legs…

-Choose something with a low rise and a longer inseam…

-We suggest Hudson's Super Model Bootleg in BGG wash

or Rock and Republic's Kassandra in Battle wash

We hope this helps! Happy shopping...

Support Our Troops...

…and dress like them! The hottest trend this Fall is the military look. To get that G.I. Jane inspired effect you can pull a Demi Moore and shave your head, however; if you aren’t in the mood for a new ‘do check out some of the latest and greatest at NVClothing.com! Grommets, buttons and camo are finding its way into everything, but we’ve narrowed it down to a few key looks! To achieve a stylish yet polished appearance its best to pair the item with something more feminine to contrast the masculinity of military fashion. A great alternative to denim is a pair of skinny cargo pants – we recommend Free People’s Skinny Military Pant in Olive. From casual to chic these military skinnies can be paired with oxford lace ups and a long sleeve tee or some chic heels and a sequin tank! Looking for a closet staple that will go the distance? Elizabeth and James’ timeless Explorer Blouse in Military Green button-tab epaulets, inverted pleat patch pockets, and a shirttail hem with button-tabs that gathers the sides. Wear it to work over a knee length skirt – belted for a cinched waist- or to cocktails over dark skinny jeans with a great pair of booties! For outerwear we recommend Kill City’s Best Shot Jacket in olive – a steal at only $98.00! This casual coat features all the best military nuances from epaulettes to cargo pockets and looks great layered with a fur vest! If olive just isn’t your color Free People’s Military Platoon jacket features a similar look to the Best Shot Jacket, only in black! The Elizabeth and James Carni Blazer is another extremely versatile alternative, featuring a twill charcoal blazer with a notched collar, flap pockets at hips, military inspired buttons, and most importantly- a detachable black down vest with an ultra luxurious rabbit fur hood! Well worth the splurge! To D.I.Y the military style don an old blazer and replace the buttons with something military inspired. Also, you can head to a local army surplus store where you are sure to find an oversized cotton or canvas camo jacket – which can be worn as is or cut the sleeves off and wear as a vest layered over cardigans, sweaters, and tee’s. Most of these stores even carry dog tags, which can be personalized!
